A brave cat in Pennsylvania saved a 3-year-old boy by taking a bullet meant for him.

We often hear stories about cats being curious, playful, and a little mischievous. But some cats go beyond that and become protectors in ways we can hardly believe.

One of those cats is Opie, and his story is truly amazing.

One morning in York, PA, Angelica Sipe’s world changed in an instant. She was suddenly awakened by the sound of a stray bullet crashing through her window.

Angelica was terrified and felt like her heart stopped. It took her a moment to understand what had just happened.

The first thing she did was check on her three-year-old son, who was still sleeping and didn’t know about the danger that had just entered their home. Thankfully, he was safe.

But then she saw her cat Opie lying on the floor in another room. There was blood on his head, and she quickly realized that Opie had been shot!

As she rushed to him, Angelica’s heart sank as she realized the shocking truth: that bullet could have hit her son.

The bullet had gone right through the couch where her son had been lying. Instead, it hit Opie, leaving four holes in his body.

It was a horrifying sight. Blood was everywhere, showing where the bullet had hurt Opie. Angelica explained in a YouTube video:

“The bullet came in through the top of his head, went out the bottom of his neck, then hit his shoulder and went out near his rib and armpit.”

The bullet bounced off and hit the couch before finally stopping in a pillow on another seat, just inches away from Angelica’s son.

Tears filled her eyes as she realized how close they had come to disaster. The bullet could have hurt her son just as badly.

Her son was too young to understand the danger they had just escaped, but he knew one thing for sure: Opie was a hero.

When the vet suggested putting Opie to sleep because of his condition, Angelica knew she had to do whatever it took to save him.

She truly believed Opie had saved her son’s life—if the bullet hadn’t hit Opie first, it could have struck her son. So, the thankful mom immediately refused to let him go, saying:

“I wanted to keep him. He was my son’s little hero… He saved my son’s life, so I need to keep him around.”

After the scary experience, Opie had some muscle damage and needed surgery. Thankfully, everything went well.

The brave kitty, Opie, still has a long and tough recovery ahead, with more surgeries to come. He has a drainage tube and stitches, but the good news is that he’s expected to make it through.

The vet bills are adding up quickly, already close to $1,000, so a GoFundMe page has been created to help with his medical costs.

I hope Opie recovers fully soon and continues to
